Lightweight Car Seat
Lightweight CRS
The trend toward lightweight products is growing in the baby industry, with brands emphasizing portability and flexibility as key selling points. Customers are increasingly choosing these products for their mobility. Combi aims to expand its product line with a lightweight baby car seat.
Background
We worked with a newly introduced material from our supplier to develop Combi’s first lightweight car seat. This material is both light and strong enough to pass crash tests. Our goal was to eliminate unnecessary plastic parts, retaining only essential components to create a streamlined, lightweight car seat.
Mechinecal Structure Review
The preliminary structure is mainly for reference, with many blocky parts that can be cut to further minimize the size.
Style Ideation
Concept A
The car seat often conveys a dynamic image, as it’s designed for use in a moving vehicle. Gaming seats also feature dynamic curves that provide a “hugged” sensation for the user.
Concept B
Helmets are a direct symbol of safety and convey a lightweight image, aligning well with our theme. For parents, their baby’s safety is always the top priority.
Concept C
Office chairs provide strong support for extended seating and are flexible enough to accommodate various body sizes. Similarly, we want users to feel that our car seat meets their baby's needs just as effectively.
The concepts were too aggressive for this stage, so we simplified them to align with Combi’s design language and created a 3D sketch.
