Design Brief

Sketches and 2D Exploration
Selected the double-layer top cap design, which echoes the new mid-tier radio, for further 3D exploration.
This direction has a gentle shoulder design for the PTT finger guide and also introduces a new toggle protection solution.

Cut Through
The toggle shroud design exploration. We found that the shroud would cause confusion when accessing the toggle. Users may take the shroud as the toggle itself and lead to misuse.
The knob dimension and height would affect the knob force as well as the finger accessibility.
The balance of both is very important for a better user experience.
Toggle Protection Design and Knob Diemension Exploration
Tilted Knob
XVP RSM added a channel knob on the top controls to increase usability. However, it may cause difficulties when fingers access the volume toggle. ID proposed a tilted knob to solve this issue. After a few times of evaluations, this feature does give more space to top controls.

CMF and Appearance Model
We use a rougher texture for the main housing on RSM to make it tough and hard to be scratched. There is a design language guideline to keep the product in the line. However, we still keep finishing it to make sure our products not only work professionally but also look professional.
Humen Factor Evaluation
A heuristic evaluation was conducted on the RM850 P1 model as part of product development. An inspection was conducted and mainly focused on the device button tactility, overall handheld, and cable length.
Production Sample Review
Tooling Samples review to improve the production process. ID and ME would feedback the sample issues to the vendor to make sure the product is perfect when it is launched.
Final Round CTP
Before the pilot of XVP RSM, we conducted a CTP section to make sure customers are satisfied with our new product. It also gave us an idea of what we need to further improve if there's any issue raised.
